Visiting The Cemetery Poem by David Wood

Visiting The Cemetery

Rating: 5.0

Visiting my late wife Tina's grave
Along a slow winding bay road
Was full of bumper to bumper traffic.
Only the view of the bay made it
Tolerable.

Walking up the slope separating the
Sections I walked towards her head
Stone only to see her sitting cross
Legged on top of it, arms folded.

Tina: 'Oh, you've decide to come then.'

Me: 'Why can I see you? '

Tina: 'We're allowed to be seen once
Every ten years.' She replied.

Tina: 'It's alright, you can close your
Mouth, it's not that much of a
Surprise.'

Me: 'It is a shock nevertheless.'

Tina: 'What are you up to, have you
Found someone new, I hope
You have.'

Me: 'No.'

Tina: 'I thought you would by now,
We agreed either one of us would.
It's not like you.'

Me: 'There is someone who takes my
Breath away that I like, a brown
Eyed blonde, but she is married,
I can't break up a happy marriage.'

Tina: 'I was married when I met you.'

Me: 'yes, but your marriage was over.'

Tina: 'It'll be Christmas Day in three days,
I remember the Christmases we had
They were all lovely. Thank you.'

Me: 'I'm on my own this year, Clara had
To be put to sleep last February.'

Tina: 'I know, she is here with me. You can't
See her but she's looking at you and
Wagging her tail.'

Me: 'Give her a kiss from me.'

Tina: 'I have. My time is up, I have to go,
disappear as you would say.

Me: 'Don't go just yet.'

With that she was gone. Was she really there in
The first place? Cemeteries can play strange
Tricks on the mind. I felt a soft breeze, like a kiss,
On my cheek as I laid flowers on her grave, I
Kissed my fingers wiping them over her name, then
Slowly walked back to the car deep in thought.

Life is never easy but especially when you lose the one you love. A great piece quite unforgettable, too.

It's always hurting when you love someone so deeply and that person died too young. We expect old age till both cannot walk in a correct way, but this death is too fast,
