Vitality Poem by Whit Leyenberger

Vitality

You have whatever it is
That makes the stars
Decide to radiate their tiny
Pins of lights into the
Inquenchable voids of
The cosmos
What is that?

That undeniable glory
That righteous urge against
The inevitability of darkness
Vitality? I suppose so
Living is an act of defiance
Beautiful futility
And you are full of life

Or maybe I’ve it backwards
Maybe you are
The reason stars stave off
The black
Piercing endless night
To linger in your eyes
Slowly closing
Just as likely
