Vulnerable Poem by Tessa Eichhorst

Vulnerable

On the outside I show poise, confidence,
clarity, and self-repect. I look as if my life
is at peace; as though all my cards are in
place.

If you only could see the person on the inside.
If you truly look into my eyes you'll see my soul.
If you take my hand, you'll be protecting me
from the nails which continue to pierce my
heart.

I may look strong, un-fazed, independent, and
determined. Only those who truly see me
receive a glimpse into my vulnerablilty.

The smallest word can cause a tear to fall.
When I feel I have nothing, no one, waterfalls
come from my eyes. As strong as I may seem,
peel back the layers and you'll finally see me.
You'll see a young women searching for happiness
and clinging for hope. If you look deeper you'll
uncover my fears and see what really makes
me cry.

Don't ever say you know me, for few people
truly do. Those are the people that love me
for me and accept my actions and vulnerability.
