Waiting Poem by Laura Carie Dalton

Waiting

I understand now what you said to me.

You and I are really good friends.

I now feel like I can tell you anything.

You told me some many things.

I actually stopped eating for three days because of you.

I was confused with everything.

My appetite was lost because I kept thinking.

Thinking about you, what you said, and what I said.

When you found my poems Thursday night, I was scared.

I had no idea what would go through you head
As you read these.

You told me that I would never be invisible to you.

You value our friendship too much.

I would never commit suicide.

I would lose you forever.

I’m beginning to understand the power of friendship.

Friendship is a two-way road.

On one side, I have a best friend who would throw their self in harms way to save me.

On the other side, they wouldn’t care if I got killed or took my own life.

You are on the first side.

I hope I’m the same with you.

Relationships come and go,
But friendships are forever.

I hope that as our relationship with God grows,
So does our friendship.

I really don’t want to go through life without having a friend like you.

I know that I have been hard to deal with.

With all the calls and poems and such.

I’m just glad you still want to be friends.

I was actually really scared when I told you that I liked you.

I didn’t want to lose our friendship.

I’ve wanted to tell you that for two months now.

I never forgot about you.

You accepted me as a friend,
I could never forget that.

I did move on when you didn’t call,
But you were always in my mind.

Matt, my friend, it doesn’t matter
Where I go or what I do,
My feelings will never change about you.

I can hold them back but I can’t change them.

As a friend, I miss you.

You are on vacation right now,
I want to call but I don’t want to ruin it.

So, I’ll wait for your return.

I’ll wait for as long as it takes to talk to you again.

As long as we stay friends,
I’ll always call you one of my very best friends.

Thanks for being my friend.

Helping me when I need help.

Making me laugh when I’m down.

Talking to me, letting me vent all my problems to you.

Even when you were busy, you still made time to talk to me.

Even if it was just for a few minutes,
You still made time to talk.

To me, you care about my life when others don’t.

I thank you, Matt Roberts, for being all that you are.

Being all that you can be.

All that you will be,
To me.
