Waiting For The Angels Poem by Ray Hansell

Waiting For The Angels

She sits by her window
Day after day
All alone just looking
Nothing much to say

She is in the golden years
Of a long and wonderful life
Looking back over the years
She loved being his wife

She recalls very vividly
They were such happy years
Filled with love and laughter
Once in a while a few tears

Yes, there were some hard times
Which all people had
But through it all we survived
That always made us glad

Raising the children
Running the home
They were the happiest years
Her heart had ever known

As the children grew older
Soon they both moved on
Before they both it
It was just him, her and the farm

As the years passed he grew sick
Each winter he got worse
For the first time in her life
When she spoke, she would curse

Damn him getting sick
Damn him leaving me alone
Alone in this aging house
That once was a happy home

She says, I'm waiting for the angels
To come and take me home
These last twenty years
Have been the loneliest I've ever known

The house now sits empty
Her children too busy to care
The house just deteriorates
As no one is living there

The shutters and the window
Are all cracked and broken
The wind howls through the house
Where words of love once were spoken

She's in her final resting place
By her husbands side
A woman so very strong
A woman filled with pride

That is an amazing story Ray. Yes, there are sad people in this world, who seek pleasure in the next.
