Waiting On Angels Poem by Kerri White

Waiting On Angels

Rating: 5.0

I swear you'll never know
exactly where my mind has been.
I'll never say how low I got,
or how I begged to get back up again.

I'll never ever tell you
about the doubts deep inside of me
hope you never find out
I never became what I set out to be.

but I want you to know I've been standing here
got a crick in my neck; got dirt in my hair,
but I've been standing here waiting on these Angels to appear.

So I stomp my feet trying to herd those Angels in,
I never heard a single one-
the mud silenced my feet
and your soul was contagious again.

I thought maybe I could run away,
set sail 'til I hit a different shore
thought maybe I could light someone else's sky on fire,
but I swear, I feel like I've loved you before.

It seems like there's an interrogation light
bleeding all over me.
I figure I'll be drowning in these questions
for the rest of my eternity.

There's a knife inside of me
that I just can't put to rest.
A reality has come over me,
maybe I was made to fail the test.

I'm always so well put together,
but I like the way you fall apart.
You'll never know me like I know you
how many ends fail before we get a head start?

Sometimes I want you to find me,
but sometimes I just like to be lost.
Sometimes I'd just like to know
that I'm getting enough in return for the cost.

So the Angels couldn't save me;
they never kept me sane.
Those Angels ran off and left me
I guess they couldn't handle all the pain.
