Walk In Darkness Poem by Barima Basoah

Walk In Darkness

I hear myself,
I whisper in the dark,
cry aloud to call someone near and far,
my voice fills the space and echoes back to me,
I could only hear my own voice.

I touch myself,
I throw my hands to touch,
someone or something near and far.
but they swing through space and come back to me,
I could only hold my own self.

I see myself,
I try to see in the dark,
while there is nothing and no one around.
I then see beauty in the dark of many true colours,
I could only see my true self.

I feel myself,
silent like a cross on a grave,
my heart beats for life it craves.
my spirit quickens for me to be brave,
then I discover strength in my inner self.

I sense myself,
I can only hold onto myself,
I can only speak to and for myself,
to survive in this hostile world of self,
all I seek from others are within myself.
