Water Windmill Poem by Ima Ryma

Water Windmill

Daniel Halladay did invent
In 1854 a mill,
A structure making tall assent.
Topped blades would turn amid wind fill,
Energizing the pumping of
Water out of a well below.
The windmill oft towered above
The rural landscape in a show
Of science helping nature bring
More of life's bounty to abound,
For better farming and ranching,
Pumping water from underground.

Water windmills began to fade
As more plumbing pipes did get laid.
