Wats And Wate

A young Scottish bard
lang syne may have said:
I will leave 'new' alone,
but for 'knew'
I'll say 'wist' and 'wotted'.

And may have said: Mate,
either 'knows' goes or 'nose' does.'
'Nose' didn't,
and the other
may have become 'wats' and 'wate'.
