We All Lost Someone Dear Poem by Dave Dunn

We All Lost Someone Dear

He was there
but he was gone
a shell resting
but he was gone

Just then he quivered
We looked in hope
as if to sit up
but no one spoke

Until the doctor
came by to say
it would take some time
afore he slipped away

A coma is a heartless thing
the mind is so hidden
from those that bring
music hoping he would waken

Days sped past
there was no change
until the medics said
they would arrange

To move him off the ITU
into some side ward
where they would view
him as oft they could afford

No hope was given
of some slight return
brain scrambled by his fall
had lost all it had learned

Time passed until that ring
we all had dread to hear
the night he passed away
we all lost someone dear
