We, The People Poem by Beth DeChamplain

We, The People

World of unity, please listen to me.
We, the people, need you sooner than ever before.
We need the guidance of happiness, serenity of a spiritual union,
and the peace of a brighter future.

Like a beloved child's horse,
give mothers the peace of mind that they deserve.
Like the security of a faithful rifle,
give fathers the notion that they can lay them down.

To the distant stars and the holes in heaven's floors,
and to the deepest depths of uncharted waters;
give we, the people, the courage to unite;
even in our world's final hours.

Tell he who causes sadness with death,
agony in mourning, and the torture of painful dreams;
we are reaching the end of our rope,
but not all of us will go down in fear.

I for one will not show my cowardice when I face the black demon!
I will hold back all of my tears and screams of fear.
I will prove to he who rules the gracious afterlife,
that I will never forget our world, even as the beast crushes my body.

World of unity, please show your face to us in the near future.
However; you will have to help we, the people, find yourself.
Give us hope in the songs we sing in our minds,
and in the emotions of love that we feel in our hearts.
