He looked into my eyes, the only part of me visible
Beneath the heavy weight of veils and jewels
I knew He was the only one who saw me tremble
Both with fear and with happiness
It couldn’t have been more than a minute
But I saw my own years in his gaze
My husband would love me, our home would be fertile
And I would be blessed and content
He did it for me.

We grew up together and played in the streets
I ran after him like a little brother
His father taught both of us our trade
His mother bound both of our wounds
Only a few times I saw he was special
Though always ready to guide and to care
He blessed our union simply with his presence
And I knew our life would be good
He did it for me.

It was the hardest thing I had done so far
I knew this was never his purpose
The potential of transformation he possessed
Would never be used for the trivial
But the family were good neighbors
The mother my friend, the father our cousin
The young couple so pure and expectant
Just this once, I needed to ask
He did it for me.

Christine Natale, 'Did it (this poem) for me. Just this once, I needed NOT to ask'. Thank you Christine for sharing this human and divine verses. You have proved, with this poem what the Church is trying hardly to prove: that Jesus was human and divine. (I recall my poem The Little Poor of God) . I give you a 10+. Bravo! Joseph S.
