What Constitutes Happiness? Poem by Juliet Hope

What Constitutes Happiness?

I love my family. Family is happiness.
I love the life I have been blessed with.
I love life. Life is happiness.
I love the Lord I have been born under
I love telling my family about my day.

Is it not amazing?
I have so many people that would shout "JULIET! ! " at the sight of my face.
I cannot count the times I have dined with a fellow.
I cannot count the number of times per day I am complimented.
I joke, and uplift the spirits of my friends.
I come home, express my joy, and,
I am shut down.

I am the alarm clock being slammed quiet.
I am the piercing awake call, "love me! Love me! Please! "
Is sleep more important?
I know I will be long gone by the time they wake.

Are these intangible dreams truly joy?
You sit, alone, enveloped in self illusion.
Happiness cannot be achieved alone.
You may dream with others, but you lay alone in your bed.
I stand at your foot, pleading for a sign of life,
but When will you awake?

I may have a family, however, emotionally absent.
I may have a life, however, emotionally unfulfilled.
I may have a Lord, however, it is difficult to see.
I may have lived another day, however, I feel dead.

I feel numb of emotions.
I feel empty.
I feel angry at my emptiness.
I feel self pity.
I feel solitude.
I do not feel.
I know what constitutes happiness,
But life has blinded me.
I do not feel.
I will be long gone by the time they wake.
