What Is Love? Poem by Hannah Barham

What Is Love?

Love is the pain when he walks away
Love is the hate when he’s talking to another girl
Love is the glow when he smiles across the room
Love is the friendship beneath the flirtation
Love is the pureness in a tainted soul
Love is the hurt when he doesn’t know how you feel
Love is the confusion when his friends say he likes you...but you still can’t be sure
Love is the upset when he asks a different girl to the ball
Love is the happiness when it’s you he ends up dancing with
Love is confiding in his best friend...and then telling them not to tell him
Love is the manic smile when he finally asks
Love is the calm when you hear his heart beating
Love is the passion when he first touches your skin
Love is the greed when all you want is him
Love is the depression when he says “it’s just not working out...”
Love is the tolerance even when he’s breaking your heart
Love is the danger in the dark, the calm in the eye of the storm, and the tears on your cheeks when he leaves for the last time, but you still beg him to stay
Love is knowing you will never like anyone else...until the next time someone catches your eye
Love is swearing to learn from your mistakes...and then repeating them time after time
Love is the chemicals in your brain getting all fizzy and bubbling madly until your hormones don’t know which way to look
Love is. Just is. Ok?
