What Is Love? Poem by Ahmed Shibli

What Is Love?

Rating: 5.0

When you fall in love
its a beautiful trap,
an endless gap
that has no map.

Walk carefully
and it might become your legacy,
but one wrong step
and you'd get lost terribly.

As for those who found true love without agony,
found it in the stars above.
the rest keep questioning their sanity,
while searching for their stars.

All the talk about love,
makes me wonder
if its eternal, impeccable,
just like the heaven above,
that must be an elegant spectacle.

So, lets all say eternal,
love is.
Then we are hypocrites,
who love like we'll never quit.
Sincere addicts.

Let me remind you
of this life.
A journey out of the blue
that leads to your destiny
which is due
and at the end,
you bid me adieu.

'Eternal humans' is an oxymoron
and eternal love is phenomenal,
Poetically philosophical.

So, what is love?
That is the wrong question.
Why is love?
Might be the right question.

Thus, love is a lesson.
A lesson for heaven,
yet theres no way
for this to be sure,
other than living on with love,
in out eternal soul.
With hope to maybe,
learn the secrets of
Eternal Love's scroll.

And now at the end
I think I should warn you,
to make amends and learn to love
For I fear, if it maybe you fail this lesson,
Then you might not ascend
To a heaven above.

Beautiful depiction of love as a spiritual experience and voyage of pure bliss, that is whimsical and temperamental. Love appears unannounced and may leave without warning, if it's not properly nurtured at all times to maintain its bliss. An insightful poem well articulated and nicely penned in good diction with conviction. Thanks for sharing Ahmed. Please read my poem POETIC MASTERPIECE.
