What Is The Human Body Poem by Francis Duggan

What Is The Human Body

What is the human body only flesh and bone
Without a mind we would be as unfeeling as a stone
Many claim when the body dies the soul from the mind does fly
To another world somewhere beyond the sky
Yet none i have known who have died have come back to me to tell
Of an afterlife of a heaven or a hell
And so far apart from majority thinking i have grown
That i have become too cynical to believe in to me what seems unknown
My gift of life does mean so much to me
I treasure every day i live to see
And i hope to live for as long as i can
And die a painless death as an old man
For without my gift of life i would be part of earth and clay
As dead as dead can be as some do say.
