Whatever Was, Was Poem by Apuna Rato

Whatever Was, Was

I caught a glimpse of your eyes
But new surges of desire,
Untamed passion and obsession
Was what I saw.
A deep conflict emerged
With each passing friction of second.
So long my waiting been
My candle burnt even in the darkest hours
Hoping one day you would knock a knock
But unfamiliar ways were
Just too much to handle.

Recognition of reality carried me
Back to gone by years
Days of love I know so well
Of longings and tearful departures.
Mistrust and fight were few,
Hopes and dreams were high
But those days were too soon ended
Your affection I no longer feel.

Life and love are not framed
By dreams we dream
But by the choice we make.
The hands to save our love you had but didn't
The dream to build a house I had but tumbled.
Betrayal left me in throes of ruin.
O, that we could climb the mountain together
O, that the best things we could have shared.
But whatever was, was
And so never will be.
