When I Look Around Myself, I Find Poem by Mohammad Younus

When I Look Around Myself, I Find

Rating: 3.5

When I look around myself, I find:
Much sorrow and sadness:
Pain and disease;
Hunger and poverty;
Killing and lynching;
Tyranny and cruelty;
Hatred and discrimination;
Oppression and suppression;
Occupation and subjugation;
Exploitation and expropriation;
People pushed to live in ghettos,
Where they live a miserable life,
Live with leftover things, and survive;
God, I pray you to inspire your people,
To live in peace and co-existence,
With fellow human beings,
And in harmony with mother nature;
God, let me be contented, minus avarice,
God, show me thy way, and help me know,
That which is with me; that which is in me -
My essence, hu, hu, hu.
