When I Pray Poem by Lehlohonolo Selai

When I Pray

But when I pray
Fame steps back
The crown I wear feels lighter
So I stop and wonder…
Should I not dwell there
Where light shines brighter
Where music knows no pleasure
Where words always invite glory
There where no power ever lies
Where leaders know no corruption

Also when I pray
My breath wears more weight
And my sweat forms into rivers
So I can't help but wonder..
Who are you Lord that before you
My words change form
My body feels solid as a rock, heavy
Who are you Lord
That my mind goes on some Holy trip
While my heart discovers new beats

When I pray
My sorrows change colour
The pain I feel losses power
So for a while I am amazed…
Perhaps like Elijah in his upper room
Holding tight the corpse of a little boy
Amazed Yes I am
Perhaps like David before a mighty giant
Feeling small yet swimming in testimony
Swinging a sling with your might

When I pray…

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Although a lot of things happen during my devotion moments, I know for sure that honesty in prayer is the biggest of all miracles
