When Knighthood Was In Shreds Poem by Bryan Taplits

When Knighthood Was In Shreds

Grateful for my age-
No longer licking lips-
Born to be a Cavalier-
Not yielding to slights nor slips.
But then I saw you
We met, you made me laugh
Right now, I don't know what to do, alas-
I've met my heart's impasse!
Charging onward forwards,
Uncertain stops and starts,
I truckle to your every whim-
Imprisoned by my heart.
However,
Lately My candle wickers low
And I fear one day I shall arrive too late
The Cavalier that once would ever boast-
Sees he's becoming second rate.
No longer am I as vastly sure of my certained supple charms
And I don't know why-it's not as if I don't try-
But I'm always wishing you in my arms.
Now that you've gone with me all these many years-
This is my new challenge-and also my new fear:
The day will soon arrive
where I will see you cavalierly
fly
Towards another, some other, less aged Cavalier.
