When we were young and carefree
The world, it seemed so immense
Yet we were never scared to venture
We were never scared, past tense.
For the world it has its shadows
That we could not defend
We were young and carefree
In a world we couldn't apprehend
We were young and carefree
So in the shadows we descended
We found the darkness, or it found us
Suddenly alone and undefended
The darkness it surrounded us
You took our only light
We were young and carefree
Until that darkened night
