Where Are You My Beloved? Poem by mmemezi khumalo

Where Are You My Beloved?

Where are you my beloved?
You call me
But the sweet voice is gone
I don’t hear you anymore
‘Where are you my beloved? ’
I ask Right before my eyes you stand
A wilted flower, I recognize you not
Where is your old self?
Your lips move, it must be a smile
It’s not the same
Vague, empty and forced
My heart thumps ‘Where are you my love? ’
You touch me
But I don’t feel it anymore
It’s never as it was
‘Where is your old self? ’
You embrace me
But am still cold and empty
The desire has long died
Your body isn’t the same
It’s now a wilted frame
Has your old self gone with the wind?
Changed with change?
Passed with the tide?
Where is the love we once knew?
Love that propelled us to skies above
Love that knew no boundary
Has love really left us so early?
Has our forever faded like tales of old?
Has our ‘till the end’ really come to ripe?
I am tormented by the faded dreams of ‘forever’
The end of ‘till the end’ makes me sick
Where are you my love?
Come back, and let’s be absolutely stupid and fall in love again
