I rode upon my noble steed,
I searched for a place to rest,
As I climbed over a misty hill
I saw a green forest;
And at the far end of it was
A beauty never seen;
An enchanting view smiled at me,
I thought it was a dream!
A city rose out of the darkness
Proudly standing still
It drew me to it, I don't know why
It was such a thrill!
I took my horse, and drove towards it
Hoping there to find;
A new world, new charm, new people, and
Men of a like mind.
But what I found out there was such a
Wonder unforeseen;
A beautiful city, beautiful people
All were in deep pain
A black cloud had been gathering at
Corner of the sky;
The king came to me, told me, 'help us!
Dark time has come neigh'!
I rode to defend helpless city,
For enemies to meet;
And held the entrance, bloody from the
Soldiers at my feet!
The cloud was broken, sun had come out
I returned to King;
But to my horror, that man had gone
Rogue, vandalizing!
The city cried, the people still pained,
I determined to
Challenge the King, stop him, for still
Justice left to do!
Drove him away, freed the city;
I was duly asked;
To take the throne and rule the people
I took on the task.
But little did I know that I was
Foolish to no ends;
For soon the people came to me and
I could apprehend
Something gone wrong, and my fear
Indeed came to pass;
For they told me to leave the throne, for
As the common mass;
They felt a ruler they did not need
What they needed was
A guard, protector- who would help them
But would not rule, because
They wanted freedom, wanted to do
Whatever they please
And I being the King was not way
It was meant to be!
And horror it was that I again
Met as I stepped down
I took my horse and my belongings
Threw away the crown
Rode out, unflinching, ringing in
Ears their voices plead
But I was not to look back at them
For it was not my greed
Of being revered; being banked on;
Being the protector
What I truly wanted was the
Glory of Emperor!
And now I wander once more as I
Used to once before
And keep looking for a place where I would
Someday wash ashore
Where glory that I seek will be mine
Find eternity;
Or maybe someday I will return
To that same city
When time is ripe for them to usher
In a King in place
Till then I travel, on an exile
But refuse disgrace;
For my flag will decorate only
Palace that be mine
Or it will rest in my pack, waiting
For a place with shine
What I will not let it become
Is just another rag
Of a petty soldier, for my honor is
What I will always brag!
