Where Is The Courtesy? Poem by Luke Easter

Where Is The Courtesy?

Rating: 5.0

The grand daughter of a speaker began to cry,
Her mother quietly took her downstairs. Why?
Obviously to some members it was a mystery,
Well, it’s all about something called courtesy.

Another child began to run, cry and perform,
For this 3 year old it happened to be the norm,
She’s not a visitor but an actual church member,
Her mother never attempts to control her temper.

The rule is children should be seen and not heard,
Every Sunday during service this behavior occurs,
Yes, that’s right always and not just once in a while,
So, who is the parent and exactly who is the child?

I can almost understand this stuff on a city street,
Not a house of worship where the faithful meet,
It’s problematic at the mall and even our schools,
However, in church? Hey, time to wake up fools.

It’s past the time for this girl’s disrespect to cease,
But, nothing has been done, that’s why the increase,
“Train up a child in the way he or she should go,
And they will not depart from it as they grow old.”

Here is a scripture from the bible that has to stick,
With life to properly raise children, Proverbs 22: 6,
Time to stop pleading with this kid, begging please,
You are in a tabernacle this is not Chuck E. Cheese.

Stop looking upon this as cute, with a smiley face,
Treating any sanctuary like this is simply a disgrace,
What does it say to visitors seeking the word so true?
Will potential new members return? Well, would you?

As you’re going anywhere don’t you look for respect?
When it’s not found isn’t that a place you’ll easily forget?
After the service is over do you want their words to be?
Saw the pastor, heard the choir, 'Where Is The Courtesy? '
