ख़ट....खट....
दरवाजे पर दस्तक हो रही थी
खटका सुन मेरी आँख खुल जाती है
मुझे सोये अभी दो घंटे ही हुये थे
यानी छः घंटे की नींद का एक तिहाई
पूरी नींद को प्रतिदिन मैं
तीन व्यस्त ब्रेकों में पूरा करती हूँ.
दरवाजे पर एक दुबला पतला,
गोरा युवक मुझे नज़र आया
जिसकी नाक दबी हुई थी
उसकी बोली भी अजीबो गरीब सी थी.
वह कुछ बेचने के लिए आया था
जिससे वह कुछ पैसा कमा सके
पर मुझे वो चीजे नहीं चाहिये थीं.
मुझे जरुरत थी थोड़ी सी नींद की,
काश वह एक नींद फ़रोश होता
तो मैं अपने लिए कुछ नींद खरीद लेती
जिसे बेच कर उसे भी कुछ पैसा मिल जाता

Knock, knock...
Sounded the door
Waking me out of my
Dear two-hour sleep,
A portion of the six hours
I have everyday in three
hectic breaks.
At the door was a diminutive,
Fair young man with a
Twitched nose and
Speech foreign to me.
Trying to make a living by
Trying to sell something
I did not need.
I needed some sleep,
He did not have it.
Only if he could make
A living selling sleep.
बहुत मर्म है इस छोटी सी कविता में वो मर्म हूबहू हिंदी अनुवाद में भी उसी तरह से जीवंत है। दोबारा ध्यान लगाने पर ज्ञात होता है। बहुत सुंदर और दिलख़राश कविता।

In this stressful world sleep comes as a boon. Not everyone are luckyto get a sound sldep. We do need sleep sellers. Beautifully translate poem
