Where Shall You Go, My Beloved Poem by Mohamed Ali Elhani

Where Shall You Go, My Beloved

Where shall you go, my beloved
When you are ever surrounded by my songs and fragrances?
When my paths lead to, and join all your paths?
Beloved! Tunefully, I am awaiting you
Like an ever fluttering, light-seeking moth.
My heart throbs and pounds within my bosom
Deep love and abiding loyalty exist between us.
So, do take me unto yourself as a blossoming spring
As a never-setting sun.

I have carried you as a dream in my eyes
As an exuberant melody on my lips.
Nor do I search long for you,
For you are closer to me than I to myself!
Yet, you ever soar afar, my own nightingale.
Where shall you go, my beloved
When you are ever surrounded by my songs and fragrances?

I strike streaks of lightning between you and I
And traverse the distances, both east and west.
O, how I run on the embers of your fires,
Never afraid of being burnt to death
Nor mindful of any harm
For I love you with the intensity of flames.
Where shall you go, my beloved
When you are ever surrounded by my songs and fragrances?

I sing to your eyes; are you enchanted by my songs?
I accept humiliation without ever being weary.
I know that union between us is a distant possibility,
And that it is more likely for me to meet my end
Before we ever meet.
Yet, I cherish my devotion to you, just the same
And live in my chimerical dream.
Where shall you go, my beloved
When you are ever surrounded by my songs and fragrances?

I love you with a love that thrills my being
I love you so, that sweet hope and songs now search for me.
My intense love for you melts me into subtle scents
Forgetting, as a consequence, place and time.
I love you in all conditions and under all circumstances
For you are love itself, my beloved.
Where shall you go, my beloved
When you are ever surrounded by my songs and fragrances
