Whiskey Blues Poem by Cheryl A. Caron

Whiskey Blues

Set aside your drink for now
Please take a seat beside me here
Don’t look for solace in that bottle
When you can find it in my ear

I can feel your pain and troubles
Though I’ve not lived them with you
I have walked down a similar road
Had my own days of weakness too

We’ve known each other forever
Regardless of when we think we met
I’m still waiting for you to trust me
Don’t be afraid, let your eyes wet

I can listen without saying a word
Because I have no magical advice
That you have not already heard
From someone else once or twice

Still I can offer you my shoulder
Stand like a rock and let you lean
Give you time, lend you my strength
Occupy you while you wean

There is nothing I want more
Believe me, it’s for the best
Set aside your drink for now
And lay your worries on my chest
