Whispering Sea Spray Poem by Suzanne Hayasaki

Whispering Sea Spray

Sneak out and meet me at our secret beach
Tonight when the moon is at its height
Lighting up the frothy spray of waves
And guiding us to the entrance of our cave.

Follow me as I lead the way
Deep into the cool, quiet darkness
And listen to whispering of the waves
Murmuring like voices of the past all around us.

We can hide here!
Disappear for a while.
I know you must go when autumn comes
But while the summer lasts, stay with me.

Here, with a campfire and a picnic,
We can play like we did as children.
You can scare me with fairy stories
And I can cling to you for protection.

And if you should try to steal a kiss
And I should put up no resistance
Then tonight will mark our transitions
From playmates to something more lasting.
