Who Are You? Poem by Aminah Wahab

Who Are You?

Oh you
Who are you?
who knows not
knows not the kind, not the merciful
Not the young, not the old
knows not the beloved
Not the most needed at such times

Money is here
Oh! don't you even value my wealth!
oh you
you take no 'kitu kidogo' who are you
who knows not the reputation i carry
At least take that rugged creature in tatters
oh! you know not class, don't discriminate
who are you who favors none

you cannot even warn us
Why are you so abrupt, why are you so heartless
oh you what are you made of
That you cannot even change your mind

I know your name
know we are all destined to meet you
But who are you
Cant you even pardon them
Listen to their hungry pleas
Their voices are pleading with eyes so hopeful

At least one second to complete what he was saying
At least one more minute the expert might do something
Please let him be for at least some more minutes
But mercilessly you walk yet proud with his soul Who are you?
And where do you keep the souls of our loved ones!
