Who I Am Poem by Monica Paris

Who I Am

I contemplate telling you
for fear that you won't understand.

There’s something inside me
changing again.

I know I told you
I wasn’t.

But now
there’s no denying.

It’s who I am.

Ashamed, I tell you
not sure how you're going to respond.

So you tell me how it’s not right
and how it is wrong.

And how our relationship will change
and never be the same.

But please
try and understand.

I'm still the same person
the only difference is.

I shared with you a secret
that I've carried for years.

You have to believe me
you did nothing wrong.

But no matter
how you feel about me.

I just want
you to know.

I’ll always
love you.

For I'm still your daughter
and you’ll always be my mom.
