Who We Are Poem by Mazwi Sedibe

Who We Are

Stench is our pride.
Always Misleading
Like a smile of uncertain bride.
From a womb we all
Emerged to become like a bomb.
We all ought to stay here,
Unforgettable like a tomb.

We've been eating our hearts out at dinner tables.
Whilst watching innocent gluttons gobbling down vegetables.
Smiling, unaware that we can turn the very tables.

Remorse is foreign in all of us.
Hurt and pain, are sweet like moose.
We leave behind long faces that look like a moose.

Yeah you can hate on,
But to us, what is the definition of care?
Despise us and then we are even,
Because
Even these smiles here are a hypocrisy disguise.

True colors are only evident in the rainbow.
For us, revealing will raise eyebrows.
Since we do not like spoon feeding.
What you see is not what you get.
Do not try to figure us out.
We are an intricate sum of personalities.
You can never figure us out.

Human Introduction, Induction and orientation.
What shakes hands with the eye,
Is not what is loyally married to the heart.

Smiles are a musk of happiness
Veiling hate.
Fools feel welcome.
The wise are snared in eyes filled with scrutiny.
For a close examination of their anatomy.
Revealed in them no traces of trust.
