Who Will Hear My Cry? Poem by Asiimwe Sam Ruhindi

Who Will Hear My Cry?

Who will hear my cry
Who said east west home is the best
This is a lie total lie see
Every time I close my eyes I see the same scenarios coming back
I hear innocent voices screaming out for help help heellp
But all go in vain and I cry habitually
Who will hear my cry

The darkness surrounds me
It's getting so cold
I'm all alone
With no one to hold
My world is so empty
All what's left is pain
No sunshine to light my way
Just never ending rain
Who will hear my cry

I drown in tears
My heart is crying
No one seems to notice
My soul is dying
They dragged my mother away
kicking and screaming
arms outstretched towards
my little sister
who lay dying on the ground
her lips parched
her eyes sunken
her wasted arms reaching out
"Mama don't leave me! "
Who will hear my cry

My father pulled my mother away
the young soldier's grasping hands
the one who had violated her
the one who now sneered
"Keep moving….she will be dead
Before nightfall."
Who will hear my cry

I had a home a family
Somewhere far beyond the horizon freedom
but it all lies in the ashes below
Left with no space to stand
Under the ruins of balls and shells
Who will hear my cry
