Whose Battle Is It? (I) Poem by Kayode Ogunleye

Whose Battle Is It? (I)

Prepare your shields both large and small
And march for the battle
Harness the horses
Mount the steeds
Take your position
With the helmets on
Polish your spears
Put on your armor
What do I see
They are terrified
The are retreating
There are defeated
They flee in haste
Without looking back
And there is terror on every side
War being declares
The swift cannot flee
Nor the strong escape
Men stumble and fall
Who is this that rises like the Nile
Like rivers of surging waters
Saying, I will rise and cover the earth,
I will destroy cities and their people
Charge O horses!
Drive furiously, O charioteers1
The sword will devour till it is sanctified
Till it has quench its thirst with blood.
