Why Poem by Emily Casbourn

Why

Within this heart
Lies the exhaustion from last night
The pain and hurt flared again
The tears staining your cheeks
Left in a world of regret and hate
The memories that take you away
Back to the danger
Back to the pain
The anguish seems to be on repeat
Never knowing what comes next
Never wanting to begin again
The anxiety doubling you over
The panic seething out
Try as you might
It won't stop without a fight
The hours spell sadness
The lights feel darkened
Hugs won't heal
Words blurr
They make less sense then before
You want to leave
Just walk out that door
Where they'll soon find out
You have always been alone
The darkness consumes
It envelops your heart
You cry out
Yet it never stops
Will this ever stop
