Why Are We Who We Are? Poem by JoAnn McGrath

Why Are We Who We Are?

Rating: 5.0

I know these questions have been asked a billion times.
And a billion ways in different rhymes.
But why are we who we are?
And why do are paths differ afar?
Why is it so hard to obtain what is good?
When the wrongs are within reach or our personhood.

I know our life experiences
alter our own pretenses,
but identical twin aren't even the same.
One maybe outgoing, the other tame.

And even when we choose our own path.
It's not always what we hope will last.
Woulda, coulda, shoulda. and what ifs?
Too many questions, it gets me miffed.

I suppose if the world was a perfect place.
I wouldn't need questions to retrace.
But still I want to know the answers for me.
So I can be free of all these pleas.

JoAnn, the answers are never there, I know I've searched for them for years. The best answer is that if we were all the same what a boring world we would live in. So stop the worrying about the answers and start living without them. If people accept you as you are, there is no need for the questions or the answers. Beautiful write though and TOP MARKS from me. I like that you're searching for answers...some people mindlessly accept what they're given...but in your poem, you're trying to figure out our reason for existance. Good work and top marks! -Michael
