Why Did You Do This To Me? Poem by Megan Graham

Why Did You Do This To Me?

I was thirteen years old.
Why did you do this to me?
I was just walking
Trying to get home.
All of a sudden I hear talking
I thought I was alone.
You came from behind
You had me confined.
I tried to see your face
But you were moving at a fast pace.
Why did you do this to me?

You put your hands around my mouth
I couldn’t make a peep.
You said “this is our little secret”
That I have to keep.
You said it like it was a price I had to pay
I tried to get away
But your weight on top of me was just too much.
You told me not to fuss.
Why did you do this to me?

When was this going to end?
When did you plan on stopping?
You tore me open, I felt it extend.
All of a sudden I felt myself dropping
I begged and I plead
Then I dropped to my knees.
Why did you do this to me?

You left me there in the cold.
I felt so dispaired…
bleeding and scared.
My life won’t be the same
You left me there with all this pain.
It’s been almost 5 years
The thought of that night puts me in tears.
I was thirteen years old.
Why did you do this to me?

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this poem based on an event that took place when I was 13 years old. I was raped on my way home around 8: 30 pm. I didn't know him. I don't know what he looks like. All I have are the emotional scars and the horrible memories that ruined me.
