Will The Faultfinder Contend With The Almighty? Poem by Garrett Westcott

Will The Faultfinder Contend With The Almighty?

Sophomoric philosophy
Had a bust of Plato on my shelf
I had read, walked, and talked
All I needed was a degree to further flatter myself
I believed God was almighty
But how could He be all good?
I had seen the evil done in this world
How could God's goodness be insured?
My questions led to confusion
I bit the hand that fed
My lips uttered the worst blasphemies
These ears had ever heard said
Who is this that darkens counsel
By words without knowledge?
Said the Father unto Job
Will the faultfinder contend
With the Almighty?
Even though I was not yet 30 years old
I had commanded the sun to rise
Laid the foundations of the earth
I was where knowledge ended
I had given the oceans birth
Of course I knew it was not so
So, I repented in dust and ash
For God is greater than man
Now all I can do is retract
