+ Winter's Chill Poem by Sonya Florentino

+ Winter's Chill

Rating: 5.0

I still can't get used to the cold
It still chills me to the bone
No matter how thick my coat
Or how many winters I've known

It reminds me that I'm all alone
It reminds me that I'm far from home
It reminds me that I am getting old

And that days will be shorter than nights
And the sun will no longer shine bright
And the years - life -
will go by faster than I'd like

With nothing to hold back time
but the memory of your smile
A flickering fire

I thought I'd get used to the cold
but I have not
I still recoil and shiver from its touch

I thought I'd be used to it by now
I'm afraid I haven't learned how

Yes, a very bitter-sweet description of Winter. It's not pleasant to be cold inside and out.

beautifully done! you know if you have someone to work with you on the music, this certainly could stand as a song lyric. To my ear it actually makes a better song lyric than a poem, since it leaves less for the reader to imagine -a main component of a poem. It fairly screams for music, don't you think?

When you speak so achingly for yourself you can't help but speak for others. Thank you.
