Winter's Wonders

The world becomes a frozen land
This wondrous time of year;
The lakes will freeze,
The snow will fall
And ice will dress the trees. The sun sets low and shadows the farm
With silos short and tall;
The barn is locked,
The kitchen warm
And cupboards all are stocked. The animals don't mind the cold-
They wear their winter coats;
The yard is fenced,
The hay stacked high-
They're secure in every sense. The child in all of us appears-
We don our skis and skates;
With mittened hands
And hats and muffs,
Let life fill our childish plates. Up in the trees, birds are found
Still singing old winter's song;
Small though they are,
They could travel far
But choose to stay - to be so strong! Inside the home, a special place
To welcome you from the cold
A fire is burning,
Curl up on the rug;
There are stories to be told. When the winter blues have found you,
When you're bitter from the cold,
Think of these things-
What pleasure it brings;
Perhaps our spirit will never grow old.

Poem of the Day

poet Percy Bysshe Shelley

O World! O Life! O Time!
On whose last steps I climb,
Trembling at that where I had stood before;
When will return the glory of your prime?
No more -Oh, never more!
