~without A Witness~ Poem by Soulful One

~without A Witness~

As I go thru
my day
my life
I often wonder
who is there
to witness?

who sees me and
is seen by me
who is touched by
my presence
my life
my absence
my loss
who will know
that I have been here
to miss me
when I am gone?

without a witness
will I just
disappear?

and all that I’ve done
whatever that may be
will it blow away
on the breeze of shifting sands
as time goes on?

will there be
one to walk the death march
lighting candles and
chanting down the veils
between this life
and the next
will the drums and trumpet
lead the way
down the ghost path
to see me safely
to the other side
to softly whisper
goodbye?

when my sun
has set in the horizon
welcoming twilight
to blanket the earth
who will sit

by the fireside
regaling the tales
of my life
to those who
did not see
were not seen
by me?

who will journey
down the shadowy path
of memories they shared
with me to recount
tales of all the
how’s and
when’s and
what’s
the joys
the adventures
the loves
and sorrows
of my life
once intertwined with theirs
in the great tapestry of life
then loosening and
unraveling
strand by strand
but still connecting
me to them

as memory goes forth
and is passed on
to those who
did not see
were not seen by
me and the Sisters
who’ve gone before
our Souls will be
comforted in the assurance
that our witnesses,
the ones we leave behind,
will share our stories
and relive shared memories
at the fireside
they will regale
the tales of our lives
and we will not
be forgotten
