Wondering Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

Wondering

Rating: 5.0

My teenage grandson said,
I am wondering about something
Where did I get my love of music?
My concentration is so overwhelming

He continued…I always have music on my brain
I love the contentment it brings
I write lyrics and put them to song
I am compelled to play my guitar and sing...

I do not know where this gift comes from
I think it is inherited, but from who?
Tell me, do I have a musical genealogy?
If there is anyone who knows...it is you

Well…let me see, I said, my father played violin
Your grandfather was the leader of a marching band
And also played a shiny saxophone and a clarinet
Your father and uncle also had a musical command

So, how come I never knew this information before?
He questioned urgently with a deprived demeanor
The subject never came up after the music stopped
Melodies cease or faded, but your interest is keener

My response quelled the necessity for further prodding
Brandon simply put the I-Pod plugs back into his ears
As I continued driving, I wondered a bit to myself
Do chromosomes carry musical talent as it appears?
