Words Poem by Francis Duggan

Rating: 5.0

Words can make you happy or cause you mental pain
And the hurt of words said with the hurted remain
For more than a month or for more than a year
Some words said about us may be best not to hear.

I do love the words of a beautiful song
And sometimes with the music I do sing along
They cause us to weep and to laugh and to sing
The gift of words are such a wonderful thing.

When James Clarence Mangan penned his Dark Rosaleen
A poem that will live as long as grass in Spring grows green
He little realized that his poem would live on
His words are alive though the poet is long gone.

Words cause offence when used in a demeaning way
We hurt others feelings when cruel things we say
But nothing sounds sweeter than kind words of praise
the magic of words never cease to amaze.

The great gift of words is a marvellous gift
They can give the sagging spirits a huge lift
Sometimes they cause heartache and more times they cause joy
And sometimes reputations they even destroy.
