Write Me Off Poem by Morituri te Salutant

Write Me Off

Thank you for the kind words, friend
But you can keep your knife
I'm getting out of this hellhole
And going on with my life
If it's wrong of me to run
Then I guess you can write me off
I can't take another one of your down-talks,
Empty beer bottles or scoffs.
I will ascend to heights beyond
What you said I could do without you
I'll craft towers of gold upon the clouds
And I guarantee they'll have a good view.
Don't concern yourself with my moral well-being,
I promise my life will hold virtue.
Friend, we both wish you could say the same
- Or, at least I do.
Maybe if your graces hadn't been switched with grease
With each bottle torn through, I'd not be taking my small piece
Of the blank white wall that is your life
If only you'd been sober enough to open up the paint!
