Wrong Message Poem by Ima Ryma

Wrong Message

Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke
Of dreams he had for humankind.
His own words turned into a joke -
'I was a drum major' was lined
In his D.C. stone monument.
Words out of context from his aim
That it was the message he sent
Be remembered, and not his name.
For justice, peace and righteousness,
He spoke of wanting to be true,
But his speaking out mattered less,
It mattered more what we all do.

'Twill be changed - this incomplete quote,
Change for a better, we should note.
