The sun is brightly shining
It is a great day for a yard sale
Browse and take your time
Prices are far below retail
All are welcome to browse
Perhaps you will be inclined
To purchase something desired
It might be your lucky day to find
Inquisitively three young men approached
'Do you have any guns? ' one asked inquiringly
William shook his head, 'Sorry, no I don’t.'
'How much for this lamp? ' the teen said admiringly
Spiritedly, William’s dog Bobby began to bark
The Yorkshire terrier gained appraising attention
'Dogs like that cost a thousand bucks! ' one teen said
Bobby was put inside, behind screened door detention
Some time later, the lamp inquirer returned
'I think I’ll get this lamp for my Auntie as a gift…'
His friends wandered out of sight, then left in haste
'Maybe not, ' purchasing intentions abruptly shifted
Later, it was discovered that Bobby was gone
The unthinkable loomed in William’s mind
His seventeen-year-old pal was in jeopardy
Suddenly frantic thoughts began to unwind
Newspapers and TV news announced the event
'If you know of Bobby’s whereabouts, please call in…
His distressed owner is worried beyond measure
This lovable toothless dog is considered to be kin.'
Days passed as hopes of a reunion began to fade
Then two women observed a furry ball being tossed
They began to pursue. 'We’ll call the cops if you
do not relinquish the dog…Is it worth the cost? '
Identification was established after a visit to the vet
Bobby was greeted with great joy and relief
His energetic leap and licking tongue confirmed delight
Thankfully this story ends with happiness, not grief…
