Yogis Or Psychopaths Poem by Saiom Shriver

Yogis Or Psychopaths

If one responds without
feeling to words full of emotion,
s/he is disciplined, or a psychopath,
or a saint or yogi
ensconced in Godward devotion.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Robert Hare's study
concludes that psychopaths'
brain scans show they
do not respond with emotion
to emotionally laden words
the way the normal public does.

But this study fails to consider
yogis who respond equally to
pleasure and pain, without
emotion to either as they
are established in equanimity.

Most of the following of Robert Hare's psychopathy checklist are from http: //www.decision-making-confidence.com/hare-psychopathy-checklist.html

Some of Hare's characteristics for psychopaths

Glibness/superficial charm
Grandiose sense of self-worth
Pathological lying
Cunning/manipulative
Secret violent and cruel acts
Lack of remorse or guilt
Emotionally shallow
Callous/lack of empathy
Failure to accept responsibility for own actions
Need for stimulation/proneness to boredom
Parasitic lifestyle
Lack of realistic, long-term goals
Impulsivity
Irresponsibility
Sexual promiscuity or several shortterm marriages
Poor behavioral controls
Early behavioral problems
Juvenile delinquency
Revocation of conditional release
Criminal versatility

(According to James Patterson, the FBI has age discrimination limits for entrance to the bureau)

There is essentially a philosophical content in the poem. The interpretation may differ from man to man. Thanks for sharing the same.
