You Knew Me Before I Was Born. Poem by Hesbon Nyamweya

You Knew Me Before I Was Born.

Even when I am vulnerable like an egg yolk....
With heavy burden on my shoulder like a yoke....
I might be a bleeding rock...
Or victims of my enemy's globule mock...
I whisper loud with my voice blocked...
Looking into heavens with my face soaked...
So, your path I can learn to walk...
And your love to many I can talk...
As I free myself from this bondage, I am locked....
For when you created and named me Hesbon...
You made me strong like a golden bone....
Guiding me from dusk to Dawn....
Because you knew me before I was born.

I thousand times I have fallen....
But countless times I have risen...
My life is a burning house but stayed inside....
Because your love makes me stay and fight...
When despair keeps me outside....
Your love gives me spiritual insight...
When no one into I can confide...
My existence and good days give me light...
So, your glory I won't put aside....
But do what before your glory is right....
For from the day through the night....
I am guarded by your holy might...
Because you knew me before I was born.

Let the other version of me shine...
Which embrace your will be done...?
And brighten my life like a hungry sun...
May you dry the tears that makes me weak...
And harden my heart like a golden teak...
For I am not afraid to bleed...
If the beast inside me I'll stop to feed...
When my world trembles below my feet...
When I am afraid and wish to flit....
Your love charges me like a spark of a flint....
And hold me tight in your mighty fist....
Because you knew me before I was born.
