You Were Right There Poem by Aimee Rozen

You Were Right There

Rating: 5.0

I hold on to these memories of you
even though you're happier with her.
I toss and turn at night
as you invade my dreams.
You hardly ever speak my name.
Was I really so easy to forget?
Or do I still meander across your mind
only to remind you of our fateful end?
Why do you still hold my imagination
when you barely even had my heart?
Why do I still care for you
when to you I don't exist?
How can you look directly at me
and see nothing but thin air?
You made me smile
You made me laugh
I was happiest with you.
But now you have her.
I'm sure you make her smile
I'm certain you make her laugh
She's happiest with you,
and you with her.
Don't let her slip through your fingers,
as I let you slip through mine.
I tried to hold on a little too late.
And now here I am,
remembering the way things were
knowing they never will be again.
