Young Jake Poem by Francis Duggan

Young Jake

Mum's out with her lover in the Swingers Club
And Dad with his mates guzzling beer in the Pub
And their ten year old Jake on his bicycle pedalling up and down
The dimly lit streets of the poor side of Town.

A Street kid at night and School absentee by day
A boy without guidance he does things his own way
What will become of him your guess is as good as mine
He's been set up to fail but he may turn out fine.

The results of poor parenting that's not for me to say
Young Jake is a nice kid he seems quite okay
His parents never beat him leave him do his own thing
His mum out with her lover his dad in the pub sing.

Who is to say he won't be a great success
That to others young Jake will not bring happiness
His dream is to become renowned at football
His may be a name that the fans will recall.

His mum out with her lover in the Swingers Club
And his dad drinking beer with his mates in the Pub
And young Jake on his bike pedals up and down the street
With a friendly hello to everyone he meet.
