(your Colors) On My Mind Poem by Scott Stevenson

(your Colors) On My Mind

Rating: 2.7

calm is down, your colors smear in the wind
blowing over live earth
down
and up

my smoothed-over and hollow
heart fills
(almost to bursting
more than expected)
you're the extra credit lift
you're the opera lights

you're the champion of this
our little strip of territory
this, our one certain place
in the wind painting out memories
your colors
and my blank sheets

time tells us to time us
space between us cuts our whole in two
because
you're the risky heartache business
...but your blood runs,
for me and our chemistry lessons
I feel your heavy voice around me
I hear your navy blue

time grinds out the sweet sounds
the summer, her intimate approach to us
the years
of living fervently...but
I still can see your shapes
moving in rooms...
you're the dream and the disease
you, against and for
seemingly
you're the golden wrench that God
throws in my gears, sweet honey
on my mind
I wake out of darkness
and think about you all the time
I cut off the bad hand and
trust you/ through the narrow gate,
I follow/ in uncertain waters,
you're my guide/ I come
by your lighthouse eyes
